Learn More About Porcelain

What Is Porcelain?

Porcelain is a dense, highly durable type of ceramic made by heating refined clays—primarily kaolin—and minerals like quartz and feldspar to extreme temperatures. This intense heat causes the materials to melt together (vitrify), resulting in a nonporous, glass-like, and often translucent finish. Porcelain floor and wall tiles are denser and less porous than standard ceramic, making them highly resistant to heavy foot traffic and moisture.
